Meet Serian (previously named Tolstoy) – he was one of Africa’s few remaining big Tuskers. He was named after Leo Tolstoy- a famous Russian author before his name was changed to Serian. Serian (Tolstoy) belongs to the ‘T’ family, which means he is related to Tim, another one of Amboseli’s well-known massive bulls. Serian inherited superior genes which ensured his place at the apex of the male elephant hierarchy in Amboseli. Massive tusks are the hallmark of his family tree. Sadly, Serian was fatally attacked due to human-animal conflict and breathed his last breath in 2022.
